Everything on this page about specific over the hill challenge trails applies to the June 2026 demo, not to the full game. The reference site labels its own route content as not a release walkthrough, and that caveat belongs at the top rather than the bottom. Route names, exact start and end points, checkpoint behaviour and reward assignments are all 待确认.
The one thing the developers have officially connected is the mechanism: a June announcement tied completing trails to unlocking the demo's three vehicles, without publishing a full trail-to-vehicle reward table.
What is official and what is not
The distinction matters more here than on most topics, because trail content is exactly the kind of thing that gets presented as authoritative when it is not. Two categories appear on this page, and they are never mixed.
Official (developer Demo replies and announcements): the recovery options when you are stuck or flipped, and the link between finishing routes and unlocking the demo's three vehicles. Community observation: every specific route description, the southeast approach, and the starter-car climbing report. A third category — the retry log method — is an editorial comparison procedure designed for this page, not a tested preset.
Not a release walkthrough. Route directions below are community reports gathered during the demo, not verified guidance. — evidence scope stated by the reference site
The southeast approach, as reported
The most detailed southeast description comes from the community map author in a full-map discussion thread on r/overthehillgame, who confirmed a route along the coastline starting from the island crate. A separate "last route" help thread mentions a southeast route near a cabin.
Both are community reports. Neither establishes a verified trail name, and together they do not prove that every southeast-facing screenshot starts from the same point. Two descriptions pointing the same compass direction is not the same as two descriptions naming one trail.
Follow the coastline from the island crate. — community map author, r/overthehillgame full-map discussion thread
The coastline reply is a navigation hint, not permission to drive through water. Safe water depth and the exact wheel tracks are not established anywhere in the material, and treating a map description as clearance to ford a river is the kind of inference that ends a run.
Climbing with the starter car
One player reported that after prioritising tyre and winch upgrades, they completed the map using the starter car alone. Later in the same discussion thread, another player suggested using manual first gear or low range, and the original poster then reported finishing the run.
That chain of messages is the whole of the evidence. It does not establish that a climb will succeed, because the specific button bindings, the full upgrade loadout and the actual line of travel were never recorded. There is also no evidence that you must unlock another vehicle first — which is the more useful half of the finding, since it removes a gate that players tend to assume exists.
Prioritise tyres and the winch, then use manual low range for the steep sections. — community report, with the original poster confirming completion afterwards
Recovery options, confirmed by developers
This is the officially documented part of the page. The developers' Demo replies record three situations and the option recorded for each.
| Situation | Recorded demo option | Check this first |
|---|---|---|
| An anchor point is nearby | Winch to a tree or a teammate's vehicle | Whether anything connectable is actually in reach |
| No natural anchor, or an awkward position | Winch anchor or jack, equipped at the merchant | Whether you are carrying the tool |
| No way to recover in place | Open the map and respawn at a cabin or the merchant | Whether trail progress is preserved — unverified |
The third row carries its own warning. Respawning is a recorded option, but whether route progress survives it is unverified, so treat respawn as a reset of that run unless you have confirmed otherwise yourself.
Vehicles and the unlock link
The demo has three vehicles, and completing trail challenges is the recorded unlock mechanism. Community reports add detail, flagged as such: three trail challenges, two of which unlock non-starter vehicles, and a separate single community report that the Rocky Ascent trail unlocks Burro. That last one is unreproduced.
The demo's vehicle names are Protector, Burro and Trail Burner. Pebbles is the demo's unlock currency. A garage entry that cannot be driven out of is visible in community screenshots. What the developers have not published is the complete route-to-vehicle reward table, so working out which trail gives which vehicle by testing is currently the only option.
Completing routes is linked to unlocking the demo's three vehicles, but no full trail-to-vehicle reward table has been published. — official June announcement, incomplete by design
A retry log you can actually use
This procedure is designed for this page, not tested by its author. It exists because trail progress in the demo is tracked per player, and each player must personally reach a target checkpoint for it to count.
Record four things on each attempt: which trail you were on, where the vehicle ended up, what recovery option you used, and whether the checkpoint registered. Over several attempts that log separates "I failed the climb" from "I failed the climb and lost the checkpoint" — two problems with different fixes. Because progress transfers between single-player and multiplayer, note which mode you were in as well.
How to weigh a community route report
Route descriptions are worth reading and worth doubting at the same time. A useful report usually names the thread it came from, describes a start point rather than a direction, and is followed by someone who says whether it worked. A weak one gives a compass bearing, no start point, and no outcome.
The southeast reports illustrate the difference. The island crate description is the stronger of the two because it starts from a place rather than a heading, and because it comes from the person mapping the game. The cabin mention is thinner — a location and a direction with no confirmed route behind it. Neither is wrong, and neither is a verified trail.
The same standard applies to vehicle unlocks. Burro unlocking from Rocky Ascent rests on one unreproduced report, so treat it as a lead to test rather than a fact to plan around. Pebbles as the demo's unlock currency, and the undrivable garage entry, are both visible in-game or in community screenshots — narrower claims, and easier to confirm yourself.
What remains unknown before release
Full-game trail names are 待确认, as are exact start and end coordinates, checkpoint behaviour and reward distribution. Whether respawn preserves trail progress is unverified. The Rocky Ascent to Burro report is a single unreproduced community claim, and no completed route in the demo establishes a verified trail name.
The honest summary is that the demo proves trails and vehicle unlocks are linked, and that three recovery options exist when you get stuck. The routes themselves remain community observation until someone maps them properly.
